Welcome to the National Warplane Museum
Press Release - 21 Oct 14
Dallas, TX – The National Warplane Museum’s Whiskey 7, the famed D-Day Veteran C-47 aircraft is bringing her message of freedom and honor to Dallas this week. After a month-long European tour last June as part of the Museum’s Return to Normandy mission in Normandy, France, Whiskey 7 continues to bring living history to students, families and our Nation’s Veterans. This past June, the National Warplane Museum flew their flagship aircraft, Whiskey 7, back to Normandy for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day celebrations. While there, Whiskey 7 dropped members of the Liberty Jump Team over the original D-Day drop zones.
The aircraft was reunited with some old friends as well. PFC Leslie Palmer Cruise, Jr., a paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne, 505th PIR, jumped from Whiskey 7 on D-Day and Bud Rice, a WWII C-47 pilot, flew Whiskey 7 during the war. Together, these special passengers were able to enjoy a flight on their old C-47, looking down upon the drop zones of Sainte Mere Eglise, and reflecting back on those moments from 70 years ago.
This week, Whiskey 7 has been invited to continue her work bringing honor and recognition to our country’s Veterans. Amongst several events included on her schedule is her proud static display at the American Airlines sponsored Air Power Sky Ball on October 25th. Sky Ball has been making a difference in the lives of military service members and their families for the past twelve years. More than 1,400 volunteers from American Airlines and US Airways will step up to raise awareness and funds that support military service members and their families.
In partnership with Snowball Express, American Airlines is able to bring nearly 2,000 children and spouses of the fallen to Dallas each December for four days of activities. Other partnerships to benefit military service members and their families include the Gary Sinese Foundation, Honor Flight and USO.
“The National Warplane Museum of Geneseo, NY is proud and honored to join in these efforts to bring support to our Veteran’s, both past and present, and to educate and inspire our future generations to carry on the legacy of our nation.”
Austin Wadsworth, President, National Warplane Museum
“As the son of a World War II Veteran, I am proud to support the National Warplane Museum and all it does to honor active service members, veterans, and America’s military warplane history. The Museum’s initiatives, including its recent Return to Normandy event, are important reminders of the service and sacrifice made by America’s military, and opportunities to thank all our country’s Veterans who have put their lives on the line to keep our nation and its citizens safe.”
Congressman Chris Collins, NY
